Empower yourself!

Determined. Self-reliant. Responsible. Achievers. Empowerment. These were some truly inspiring terms frequently used at the woman empowerment workshop titled WAVE (Woman Aspiring Vibrance and Empowerment) organised by Anns of Rotary Club of Cochin Knights at Hotel Mercy. Women from various walks of life actively participated in this power-packed workshop.

The half-day workshop aimed at inculcating entrepreneurship with a view to empowering women and helping them overcome obstacles. The workshop was inaugurated by District Collector M Beena and later continued with three sessions which were handled by eminent women who had carved a niche for themselves in society.

R Sreelekha, IG of Police, in her key note address mentioned that despite a high literacy rate for women in Kerala, there are numerous evils existing in the society. An example of one such evil is the Soumya incident which occurred recently. One of the speakers, Sushma Srikandath, pointed out that focusing only on women is not the solution to the various problems at hand. A PAVE rather than a WAVE would bring about change in the society. Each and every person should be taught how to respect women. Only then will empowerment be truly realised.

Empowerment of women is one of the key factors while measuring the development of a nation. It should be a united approach with strong determination in every man to honour every woman India. Today, women have elegantly and smartly conquered the world. After all it is said, ‘the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world!’
